I feel like I'm the only person writing about how much I dislike YouTube's new comments section. In an effort to reduce the number of famously stupid comments you have to read (but now the ones you see), they've changed the whole system to be associated with Google+. Their goals are noble, I suppose, but they haven't really taken into account the (supposedly) few people who do not want to sign up to Google+.
Let me repeat that to be very clear: I do not want a Google+ account.
In this (youtube-global.blogspot.com/20…) blog, the authors write that 4 out of 5 people who write comments on YouTube videos have already synced their YouTube accounts with Google, or, in other words, signed up for Google+.
Here's how they got 4/5 people to use Google+:
You: I'm going to leave a comment!
YouTube: How do you want to name to appear? First/Last or your current YouTube name?
You: Uh, I guess I'll pick (either).
YouTube: Great! Enjoy your new Google+ account!
You: Enjoy my new what?
They tricked users into signing up (but still offered them a two week period to deactivate the Google+ account, which leads me to believe they expected people to be upset about agreeing to join a social networking site without realizing it) and are now bragging about its popularity.
I get it. Google is conquering the world. Every sleek new product they unveil is generally well accepted, like Google Wave. Google+, to my knowledge, received a general "meh" at best. Now they're making a specific audience sign up for it.
There's nothing wrong with pushing your service. People only get upset when you push too hard.

So I'm living in Japan
The Navy makes keeping up with the internet harder than I realized. Even before being stationed here there was so much going on in my life I feel like I neglected a whole lot... For instance, what games are coming out? Besides Nintendo's big titles (Smash Bros., Hyrule Warriors, Bayonetta 2), I have no idea.
Anyway, I'm in Japan now! I have no internet unless I hike through very hot weather to the USO, and that isn't practical all the time. Especially since we're about to go underway for a few months...
But in the mean time, checkity-check out my blog! You may remember it as my semester-abroad-in-London blog, but now it's my stationed-in-Ja
Holy crap, Genzoman likes something I made
Today is the day I join the Navy
For obvious reasons, this won't get updated for about nine weeks (probably longer)
Until then, see you guys later!
Three days until I join the Navy
February 18 is the day I get picked up and the last day I'll have access to the interwebs for about nine weeks. Wooo!
